Oslo - the host city of the 19th Nordic Congress of Gerontology

The history of Oslo is more than a thousand years old, and the capital of Norway was founded in 1299. It is situated in a beautiful location at the end of the Oslo Fjord, where the hills and woods meet the sea.
By the sea you can visit the Viking ships and the exhibition of the Kon-Tiki raft that brought the famous explorer Thor Heyerdahl from South America to the Easter Island. Nearby are the museum for the Polar ships Fram and Gjøa, and the Maritime museum.

The masterpieces of our most famous painter Edward Munch can be seen in the National Gallery close to the conference venue and in the Munch Museum at Tøyen.

Up in the hills the view is magnificent and for visitors, the Holmenkollen area is a must, with its famous ski jump and world cup arena for Nordic skiing.

Oslo is a busy harbour city with daily ferries to Denmark and Germany, train and bus connections to Sweden and Denmark and connection by air to the rest of the Nordic countries and the rest of the world. University of Oslo is the oldest and biggest university in the country, founded in 1811 when Norway still was a Danish dependancy.

The Congress Centre is in the Radisson SAS Scandinavia Hotel, Holbergs gate 30, close to the Royal Castle. It has all modern facilities and all sessions will be arranged on the same premises.
